Le compositeur canadien multi primé Howard Shore est le sujet flamboyant de ce nouveau double cd édité par Deutsche Grammophon. Hautement dramatique, musicalement dense et contrastée, la musique de Shore a honoré plus d’une centaine de films et lui a valu une belle série de disticntions dont 3 Oscars, 3 Golden Globes, 4 Grammys (The Hobbit, …). Le compositeur a également écrit pour l’opéra, le ballet, le concert.
Enregistrée lors du « Week-End Howard Shore » de Radio France en 2023, l’anthologie publiée par Deutsche Gramophon, reflète la riche variété des productions de Shore : l’auditeur cinéphile ou pas retrouve un échantillon emblématique de musiques diverses, pour le cinéma : The Fly, Naked Lunch, Ed Wood, Crash, Esther Kahn, Eastern Promises et, bien sûr, Le Seigneur des Anneaux et Le Hobbit, ainsi que la pièce pour piano solo non cinématographique « Catania ». Deux phalanges françaises assurent la réalisation artistique de cette somme discographique, célébration opportune à l’un des compositeurs les mieux inspirés pour le grand écran. L’Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France est dirigé par Ludwig Wicki et Bastien Stil, tandis que Mike Schäperclaus dirige Le Balcon dans les œuvres de chambre. Album événement annoncé le 21 mars 2025.

Explore the colourful cinematic universe of the award-winning Canadian composer Howard Shore in this new double album from Deutsche Grammophon. Shore’s music has graced over a hundred films and won him a string of awards, including 3 Oscars, 3 Golden Globes and 4 Grammys. He has also written for opera, ballet and the concert hall.
Recorded during Radio France’s 2023 “Week-End Howard Shore”, this generous anthology reflects the rich variety of Shore’s output. It presents highlights from such diverse soundtracks as The Fly, Naked Lunch, Ed Wood, Crash, Esther Kahn, Eastern Promises and, of course, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, as well as the non-cinematic solo piano piece Catania. The Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France is conducted by Ludwig Wicki and Bastien Stil, while Mike Schäperclaus conducts Le Balcon in the chamber works. The album will be released in all formats on 21 March.
